Apps for Life

Everybody seems to be getting on the bandwagon of owning a smartphone...although some of these smartphones don't seem so smart at times...blame it on the apps, eh?

Been thinking myself to upgrade my almost 5-year old phone, but just can't make up my mind which to get. Of course the hype nowadays is on the latest, thinnest, biggest screen, highest pixel resolution camera, best deal promo, etc, etc.

I naturally googled for reviews to compare the various phones, from the i's to the droids. Most reviews I read were based on the hardware performance, the looks, the OS and whether it was any better than its predecessor. So I decided to take another approach...let's look at the free apps instead.

There's tons of it, especially on games and entertainment, the usual social networking apps, all-in-one-calendar-to do list-memo-stick it note, weather forecast tool, some other cool apps that can turn your phone into a flashlight or scanner or mouse or mirror...

Some useful...some not so useful (as some reviewers were complaining "i installed it but it sucks and now i can't uninstall it!?!"). Was wondering myself, can they ever develop a really useful app, maybe one you can use when you're feeling really down and all you need is a click...i mean, a tap of the screen, and you're immediately filled with joy and it also downloads solutions to your problems! ...or maybe an app that can give you a direction and purpose to your life when you're at a crossroads (complete with map, zoom-in or out for a better view and even rotate in 3D!) ...or an app that helps you find a future partner (compatible, competent and comparably better looking than any glamorous TV personality)...

Ok, none of that is ever going to be a down-loadable app...it's just pure fiction (of my momentarily hyper imagination)...even if there was, there's the moral application (no, it's also not an app...and i wouldn't download it because it reminds me of my high school syllabus =p) that we'll never learn and grow in our character, if we just skip the rough times in our life...

But, I take heart in one thing, there's one cool app that I have, given by my Father in Heaven...that's the Bible. It's not just words or a super long Wikipedia article...it's a flashlight in my darkest time, a weapon (oh yeah, this is way better than any weapons of mass destruction out there) that has divine power to demolish strongholds in the spiritual realm, a guidebook on friendships and relationships, even a mirror!...that's just the tip of the iceberg...for optimal performance, I need to maintain a good connection with God...always...

p/s. yes, there are already bible apps around...but, i was referring to the origins of the bible..."In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." ~John 1:1 ...profound but true...
